On this page you will find the Terms and Conditions of hire of Campervans New Zealand KEA Campervans/Campers.
Daily hire prices are inclusive of:
- GST (Goods & Services Tax)
- Unlimited kilometres
- Standard insurance with an own excess of NZ$5000.00
- All LPG-gas for cooking, heating and fridge
- Diesel road tax
- All linen, towels *incl. tea towels) cutlery and crockery *
- Electric power cable , roadmaps, camping guide, brochures ,road code book
- transfers from and to airport and or inner-city hotel to depot on pick up and drop off
- 24-hours breakdown service
ATTENTION: If you pick up your KEA campervan straight after arrival in New Zealand KEA will provide a shower facility to start your New Zealand adventure refreshed.

Minimum Rental Duration and Costing
Minimum rental period: 5 days. Vehicle rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, i.e. day of pick-up or drop off is always counted as a full day irrespective of what time it is collected or dropped off.
Long-term Rental
Special conditions apply for rentals of more than 50 days. Details available on application.

Locations: Auckland, Christchurch. All branches are closed Christmas Day
One Way Rental Fee
Between 1 October 2008 and 31 March 2009 a one way fee of NZ$275 applies.
Licence and Minimum Age
A valid national drivers licence is required. National driver's licences, which are not in English, need to be presented in conjunction with an official translation or valid international drivers licence. The minimum age is 21 years.
Standard Excess Policy
All KEA Campers vehicles come with comprehensive insurance cover. A standard excess of $5,000.00 applies in the event of any damage to either our vehicle or third party property. The renter will also be fully liable for replacing or repairing damaged windscreens and tyres. A security bond of $5,000 will be taken on vehicle collection. The security bond can be paid by cash, traveller's cheque or credit card. Should the bond be paid by credit card the amount will be debited to your account immediately, any currency fluctuations are not the responsibility of KEA Campers. The bond is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property and the toilet cassette and waste water tank has been emptied and no items are lost or damaged.
KEA Campers offer the following two (2) options to reduce or waive the Standard Excess:
Excess Reduction 1: at $25.00 per day will reduce the excess for any damage to either vehicle or third party property to a maximum of $2,000.00. The renter, however, will be fully liable for replacing or repairing damaged windscreens and tyres. The bond of $2,000.00 can be paid by cash, traveller's cheque or credit card: a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken. This is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property and the toilet cassette and waste water tank has been emptied and no items are lost or damaged. The total insurance charge is limited to a maximum of 50 days or $1,250.00.
Excess Reduction 2: at $35.00 per day will waive the excess for any vehicle and third party property damage and the cost of replacing or repairing of windscreens and tyres. However, a security deposit of $250.00 is payable at the time of pickup to ensure that the vehicle is returned to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition and with the toilet cassette and waste water tank has been emptied and no items are lost or damaged. The total charge is limited to a maximum of 50 days or $1,750.00.
Important:
The renter is fully liable for any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property if:
- The terms of the rental contract are breached.
- Damage to the vehicle is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Driving on restricted roads.
- Water submersion or salt water damage caused through own fault.
In case of any damage to the KEA Campers vehicle or third party property a second bond will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.
Road Restrictions
Campers/Motor homes can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well maintained roads. No vehicles shall be driven on the following roads: Skippers Canyon Road, Ball Hutt Road, 90 Mile Beach, and all unsealed ski access roads.
Repairs
Repairs of up to $100.00 may be effected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. Amounts above $100.00 require approval from KEA on-road assistance.
Living
Vehicle manual, maps, travel guides, camping park directories, gas and/or electric heater, bucket, broom, towels, LPG gas bottle, clothes pegs, dustpan and brush.
Sleeping
Duvets, blankets, (or, if preferred, sleeping bags will be provided as an alternative), pillows and sheets.
Cooking & Dining
Crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots, frying pan, grater, chopping board, salad/serving bowls, storage containers, toaster, coffee plunger, kettle, teapot and tea towels.
Vehicle Return
All vehicles must be returned with a full fuel tank.
Additional Equipment
All Additional Equipment can be added to a reservation and will be paid direct to Pacific Horizon upon pick up of the Campervans.
Prices in NZ$ are per hire.
- Picnic table - NZ$20.00 (incl. 2 chairs)
- Picnic chair - NZ$20.00
- Picnic umbrella - NZ$ 20.00
- Baby seat or booster seat - NZ$20.00
Change of Vehicle
If, for reasons beyond our control, the reserved vehicle is not available, we reserve the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle at no extra cost to the client. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to any form of refund.
Taxes
All charges include 12.5% GST. All rates and conditions are subject to change in accordance with changes in government taxes.
Cancellation Fee
The cancellation fees are:
- If cancelled 30-24 days prior to pick-up: NZ$250.00
- If cancelled 23 - 8 days prior to pick-up: 25% of Gross Rental
- If cancelled 7 days before pick up or No-Show: 100% of Gross Rental
