The campervans of United are max. 3 years old United Campervans is the only campervan company in the world with a Green Globe 21 Certification, endorsing environmental friendly practices and minimizing the impact of tourism on the social and environmental surroundings of New Zealand.
Daily hire prices are inclusive of :
- GST (Goods & Services Tax)
- Unlimited kilometres
- Standard United Vehicle Insurance with a NZ$ 5000 Bond/Excess
- Tyre repair and/or replacement
- Diesel road tax
- All linen, towels incl. tea towels cutlery and crockery
- Electric power cable , roadmaps, camping guide, brochures ,road code book and refreshment starters pack
- Transfers from and to airport and or inner-city hotel to depot on pick up and drop off
- 24-hours breakdown service
- Discount card for most supermarkets around New Zealand
One Way Hires
One Way hires are available between Auckland and Christchurch (or vice versa) at no extra cost.
Daily Hire Charges
The daily hire charges are calculated on a daily basis, not a twenty-four hour day. Vehicles are available at 8.00 am on the day you commence your hire and must be returned by 4.30 pm on termination unless prior arrangements are made.
Vehicle Equipment
The following equipment is standard in all United motor homes and campervans:
Living
Vehicle manual, maps, travel guides, camping park directories, gas and/or electric heater, bucket, broom, towels, LPG gas bottle, clothes pegs, dustpan and brush.
Sleeping
Duvets, blankets, (or, if preferred, sleeping bags will be provided as an alternative), pillows and sheets.
Cooking & Dining
Crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots, frying pan, grater, chopping board, salad/serving bowls, storage containers, toaster, coffee plunger, kettle, teapot and tea towels.
Insurance - Standard Rates
All United Campervans Standard Rates include Standard United Campervans Vehicle Insurance. This provides cover for: - Damage to the United Campervans vehicle or third party property. - Public Liability up to NZ$5,000,000.
- A Bond/Excess of NZ$5,000 must be paid on collection of the vehicle. The hirer will be responsible for the first NZ$5,000 of any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property.
- The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens
- This Bond/Excess may be paid by cash, traveller's cheques or credit card. United accepts Visa and MasterCard. If a credit card is used as the method of payment then NZ$5,000 will immediately be debited from the credit card account. United Campervans will not be responsible for any losses incurred due to interest charges or currency fluctuations.
- The Bond is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a clean undamaged condition, with no damage incurred to third party property, and with a full tank of fuel and empty toilet cassette.
United Campervans offers two options to either reduce or waive this standard Bond/Excess of NZ$5,000:
CDW OPTION 1 - Payment of NZ$20 per day [maximum NZ$1,200 for any one hire] at the commencement of the hire will reduce the Bond/Excess to NZ$1,200 [NZ$2,400 for hirers under the age of 25 years].
- The hirer will be responsible for the first NZ$1,200 [NZ$2,400 for hirers under the age of 25 years] of any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property.
- The hirer will be fully liable for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens.
- If a credit card is used as the method of payment then an imprint only is taken. No amount will be debited against the credit card on pick up. However, in the event of an accident, the full bond of NZ$1,200 [NZ$2,400 for hirers under the age of 25 years] will be uplifted immediately and any balance refunded only after full and final costs have been established and deducted.
- The Bond is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a clean condition, with no damage incurred to the hired vehicle or third party property, and with a full tank of fuel and empty toilet cassette.
CDW OPTION 2 - Payment of NZ$32 per day [maximum NZ$1920 for any one hire] will completely waive the Bond/Excess.
- The hirer will not be responsible for any costs incurred due to damage to the hired vehicle or third party property, or for the repair or replacement of damaged windscreens.
- Please note: a signed credit card imprint will still be taken for a fuel and cleaning deposit to a maximum of NZ$100. This deposit is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a clean undamaged condition, and with a full tank of fuel and empty toilet cassette.
Insurance - All Inclusive Rates
Comprehensive insurance as detailed in OPTION 2 is included in the All Inclusive Rates, and NO excess applies. This applies to all eligible hirers over 21 years.
Please note: a signed credit card imprint will still be taken for a fuel and cleaning deposit to a maximum of NZ$100. This deposit is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed drop off depot, on the due drop off date, in a clean condition, with no damage incurred to the hired vehicle or third party property, and with a full tank of fuel and empty toilet cassette.
Insurance Exclusions (applicable to both Standard and All Inclusive Rates)
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the United vehicle or Third Party property if:
- the terms of the Rental Agreement entered into with United Campervans are breached;
- damage is caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
- the vehicle is driven on restricted roads;
- damage is due to careless, willful or reckless driving;
- negligence, or other act of the hirer, results in water submersion or salt water damage
Minimum Hire Periods and One Way Hires
For all rental vehicles there is a minimum period of seven (7) days. It is possible to commence your hire in Christchurch and finish it in Auckland (or vice versa) at no extra charge if the rental period is a minimum of fourteen (14) days.
Refunds
Regretfully no refunds can be given for any unused portion of your holiday. However your travel insurance may in some circumstances cover the unused portion. Refunds for hires paid and cancelled prior to pick up will be subject to our cancellation policy.
Fuel
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of the hire, and must be returned with a full tank at the end of your hire.
Vehicle Substitution and Design
We shall make every effort to provide the vehicle you requested but where a vehicle is unavailable for any reason we reserve the right to provide a comparably high standard vehicle at no extra cost to you. While including the same facilities, vehicle layouts may vary slightly to those shown due to manufacturer design changes.
Drivers Requirements and Licence
All drivers must be 21 years of age or older and hold a current valid drivers licence, to be produced at the start of the hire. An international or country of origin licence is acceptable. No special licence is required to drive any United campervan or motor home in New Zealand. No maximum age limit applies.
On road assistance
It's a hirer's obligation to contact United Vehicle Rentals should any problems be experienced with the vehicle.
United Vehicle Rentals offers a 24 hour telephone number for On-Road Assistance in case of accidents or breakdowns.
Repairs
Hirers may undertake on-road repairs, or replace broken equipment, up to NZ$ 100 without authorisation from United Vehicle Rentals. The Amount will be reimbursed on presentation of a receipt. Authorisation from United Vehicle Rentals is required for amounts over NZ$ 100. Hirers should call United's On-Road Assistance freephone 0800 759 919 for authorisation
Traffic Infringements
All traffic infringements are the responsibility of the hirer. The hirer's credit card details held by United will be retained until all traffic infringement notices incurred by the hirer have been settled with New Zealand Traffic Authorities. United reserves the right to pass on details of the hirer's home contact to the New Zealand Traffic Authorities.
Animals
We regret that animals are not permitted to travel in any of United's vehicles.
Road Restrictions
Hirers are permitted to drive their vehicle on any road in New Zealand except the following which are prohibited in all circumstances:
North Island
- Ninety Mile Beach - Northland
- North of Colville Township - Coromandel Peninsula
South Island
- Skippers Canyon Road - Queenstown
- Ball Hutt Road - Mt Cook
Transfers
TRANSFERS - AUCKLANDArrival: Complimentary transfers between the Airport and Depot are available to United Campervans clients, on demand, by mini coach shuttle operated by United Vehicle Rentals.
For International Arrivals: Clients should use the phone located immediately inside the Door 8 exit of the Terminal and phone United Vehicle Rentals Free on 0800 759 919. You should supply your name, number of persons and the Terminal of pick up.
For domestic Arrivals: Clients should phone United Vehicle Rentals free on 0800 759 919 using the phones available as follows:
Air New Zealand Arrivals – use the phones located immediately inside the exit door closest to the baggage collection area of the Air New Zealand Terminal.
Qantas Arrivals – use the phones located immediately outside the exit door to the Qantas Terminal
Clients should supply their name, number of persons and the terminal of pick up. In both cases clients should wait for the shuttle directly outside the Terminal exit door.
For arrivals from Auckland City and Airport Hotels: For transfers from Downtown Auckland or Ariport Hotels you may use a taxi and will be reimbursed for the cost. United requests that you use Discount Taxis, Telephone 529 1000. You must pay and obtain a receipt from the driver. The cost will then be reimbursed by United on presentation of the receipt.
All Departures: Complimentary transfers are available from the Depot to either the International or Domestic Terminal at Auckland Airport by United Vehicles Rentals shuttle and can be arranged by clients on the termination of their hire. Taxi transfers to other destinations can be arranged; however these are at clients’ expense.
TRANSFERS - CHRISTCHURCH
Arrival Complimentary transfers between the Airport and Depot are available to United Campervans and Alpha Campervans clients, on demand, by mini coach shuttle operated by United Vehicle Rentals.
For International and Domestic Arrivals: Please phone United Vehicle Rentals free on 0800 359 010 using the phones provided. Please supply your name, number of persons and the Terminal of pick up.
For Arrivals from Christchurch City and Airport Hotels: For transfers from Downtown Christchurch Hotels or Airport Hotels you may use a taxi and will be reimbursed for the cost. You must pay and obtain a receipt from the driver. The cost will then be reimbursed by United on presentation of the receipt.
All departures: Complimentary transfers are available from the Depot to either the International or Domestic Terminal at Christchurch Airport by United Vehicle Rentals shuttle and can be arranged on the termination of your hire. Taxi transfers to other destinations can be arranged, however these are at your expense.
United Vehicle Rentals Ltd reserves the right to amend conditions, vehicle specifications and tariffs at any time without prior notice.
- Damage to the United Campervans vehicle or third party property

All Additional Equipment can be added to a reservation and will be paid direct to United Campervans upon pick up of the Campervans.
- GPS Navigation System NZ$ 5 per day (maximum $200 per hire - NZ$ 100 excess applies to the GPS including accessories)
- Picnic table - NZ$25.00 (incl. 2 chairs)
- Picnic chair extra - NZ$5.00
- Baby seat or booster seat - NZ$25.00
- Mobile phone - NZ$30.00 (with NZ$20.00 calling time)
- Bike rack - NZ$50.00
- Bike - NZ$ 6.00 per day max of NZ$125 per hire
- Bicycle Child Seat - NZ$ 25
Cancellation Fee
The cancellation fees are:
- If cancelled 30-24 days prior to pick-up: NZ$250.00
- If cancelled 23 - 8 days prior to pick-up: 25% of Gross Rental
- If cancelled 7 days before pick up or No-Show: 100% of Gross Rental
